Knowing the emissions is important because it is the basis on which experts try to determine the level of air pollution and the steps and measures to reduce it to acceptable levels.

Air pollution occurs when a pollutant is present for a long period of time, in large quantities and has a harmful effect on living organisms and humans. In the case of humans, air pollution is also considered to occur when they experience a deterioration in their well-being.

The point where the pollutant first meets the air is called the emission point.

We can talk about:

– point source e.g.: a factory,

– linear e.g. a vehicle,

– area-source emission e.g. a chimney.
